Importing your data
Importing your data from ParishSoft
You can bring your existing households, members, and sacramental history into Vianney from a ParishSoft export. The import always proposes changes for your review — it never applies anything on its own.
How it works
- 1. Export your data from ParishSoft (families, members, and the sacrament reports).
- 2. The import runs a preview first, showing exactly what would be created and what would change — new households, new members, and field-by-field updates.
- 3. You choose the scope to apply: create only, update only, or both.
- 4. Sacraments (baptism, communion, confirmation, marriage, and more) come in as separate steps with their own review.
- 5. If your export happens to carry Marital Status, Occupation, or Language, those come across into the person's Details — marital status, profession, and languages spoken. They are entirely optional: an export without those columns imports exactly as it always did, with no error and no complaint. As with everything else, a value a staff member has already edited in Vianney is never overwritten by a later import.
The safeguards
- People are matched by their ParishSoft ID, not by name, so records line up correctly.
- An empty value in the export never blanks something you already have — imports only add.
- Anything a staff member has edited in Vianney is protected; a conflicting import value is shown, never silently overwritten.
Tips
- Always read the preview before applying — it is the whole point of the design.
- Next: Reviewing imports and merging duplicates.
