Adding a person and household
When someone new joins — or you discover a person not yet on file — add them from the People tab. Every person belongs to a household, so you either join them to an existing one or start a new one.
Add a person
- 1. On People, click + Add Person (next to the search box; + Add Household starts the same flow with the household step already set to "start a new household").
- 2. Work through the guided steps: Identity (first/middle/last name, nickname, sex, birth date), Contact (email, mobile phone, preferred contact method), Household (join an existing one, start a new one, or none yet — plus their role in it: Head, Wife, Husband, Son, Daughter, Other), Church life (homebound, contact consent, preferred language), then Review.
- 3. On the Review step, click Add [name] to the parish.
Your work is saved as you go
If you have to stop partway, your answers are kept as a draft on this device — reopening + Add Person picks up right where you left off.
What happens
The new person appears at the top of the list and their profile opens. They are a Vianney record; if you later import from ParishSoft, Vianney links them by ID rather than creating a duplicate. See Importing from ParishSoft.
Tips
- A household is not required up front — choose "No household yet" and attach one later from their record — but most people belong to one, since it's how addresses, envelopes, and family connections hang together.
- Adding a person never overwrites anyone; it only creates. To merge two records that turn out to be the same person, see Reviewing imports and merging duplicates.
- Volunteers added through the Safe Environment module (who are not otherwise parish members) are marked SE-only and do not appear in the main directory — they are managed exclusively from the Safe Environment module.
