Turning modules on and off
Not every parish uses every feature. The Modules settings let you switch areas on or off so Vianney shows only what your parish actually uses. There is now one switch for every module in the left-hand navigation — if you can see it in the sidebar, you can turn it off here.
Toggle modules
- 1. Go to Settings → Modules (priest or Administration).
- 2. Every module has a row: Today, Messages, Tasks, Care, Cemetery, Liturgy & Intentions, Events, Ministries, Funerals, Matrimony, Baptism, Connect, Forms, People, Faith Formation, Engagement, Stewardship, School, Safe Environment, Reports, Settings, and then the two screens that are not sidebar areas, Shepherd Notes and This week. Twenty-three rows in all, of which twenty are yours to switch.
- 3. Tick or untick the ones you want, then press Save modules. Changes apply immediately — the menus update without a reload, and nothing is ever deleted by turning something off. A module that is off reads *off — hidden from the sidebar*.
Stewardship and School are the two that ship switched off; turn School on if your parish runs one, to unlock School Advancement.
The three that cannot be switched off
Today, People and Settings are listed with their switch fixed on and marked *the spine of the app — always on*. Today and People are what everything else leans on, and Settings is deliberately not hideable: you cannot close the door you would need to reopen everything else.
Safe Environment has a second gate
Safe Environment now appears in this list like any other module, but the switch here is only half the story. Turning it off hides it for the whole parish; turning it on does not by itself give anyone access. SE access stays grant-driven: the pastor always has it, and every other priest and staff member receives it through the Safe Environment access dropdown on their card in Settings → Staff & Teams. That keeps sensitive clearance records with exactly the people who need them.
Three sibling settings
This page turns whole modules on or off. Three other pages do smaller, related jobs:
- Settings → AI add-on turns individual AI helpers on or off (Shepherd Notes reply drafts, communication drafts, readings summary, and more) without affecting the module itself — the module stays on, just without that particular assist. See AI in Vianney.
- Settings → Portal decides what parishioners may do for themselves — contact details, ministry preferences and blackout dates, substitute requests, signing up for open spots, and their address. See Inviting a parishioner to the portal.
- Settings → Connect sets two parish-wide dials behind your messaging: the fallback words that stand in when a personal touch has nothing to draw on ("Dear Friend," when a record has no first name), and the safety check that steps in front of a large send. Connect itself is switched on or off here; how it behaves is set there. See Connect settings and safety limits.
Tips
- Start a new parish with just the modules you need and add more as you grow comfortable.
- Turning a module off hides it for everyone; a role still needs access to a module that is on (see Roles and what each can see).
- A row appears here only for a module your parish could actually use. If Vianney Software has not switched a module on for you at all, it is absent rather than shown as a switch that would do nothing.
- The last two rows are not sidebar areas. This week is a screen you reach from Home's *Coming up this week* number — see The This Week view. Shepherd Notes is the front-desk note engine that now lives inside Messages; switching it off stops notes being captured or answered anywhere. See What is Shepherd Notes.
- This is configuration — adjust it anytime as your parish's practice changes.
